Upon your arrival in Calgary, independently enjoy the day exploring the city’s excellent attractions: such as Glenbow Museum or the Eau Claire markets. Accommodation in Calgary is included with your tour package.
On an 11 hour tour to Jasper today, experience the natural splendour of Banff and Jasper national parks. Spectacular glaciers, cascading waterfalls, turquoise lakes and colourful meadows dot this awe-inspiring mountain wilderness. The snow-capped peaks and endless mountain ridges are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including bears, wolves, deer and eagles. The tour stops at the Columbia Icefield where you have the opportunity to venture by Ice Explorer onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. Other brief sightseeing stops, including an opportunity to photograph the turquoise waters of picturesque Lake Louise, are made throughout the tour. Overnight in your Jasper hotel.
Spend half the day touring several excellent geographical features in the Jasper area. Travelling by motorcoach, you will have the opportunity to visit Maligne Canyon, Patricia and Pyramid lakes, and see panoramic views from the Athabasca viewpoint. Enjoy the rest of your day in beautiful Jasper. Some recommended activities include golfing at the The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, exploring local walking trials, or taking a ride on the Jasper tramway for a bird’s eye view of the valley and surrounding peaks.
Board the Rocky Mountaineer train the morning. After leaving Jasper National Park, view the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, at 3,954 metres (12,972 feet), and the picturesque Pyramid Falls. Pass by the striking peak Mount Terry Fox, named after the legendary fundraiser who attempted to run across Canada with his prosthetic leg before losing his life to cancer. Many geological changes will be evident as the train leaves the Monashee and Cariboo Mountain ranges, and travels through charming rural communities, along the shore of North Thompson River, into the city of Kamloops for the night. Breakfast and lunch are included aboard the train.
Advance tickets may be purchased for evening entertainment in Kamloops: the Two River Junction Musical Revue or the Great Canadian Lumberjack Show. Ask your AdventureLink Tour Coordinator for details.
The train gradually leaves the ranchlands of south-central British Columbia and approaches the phenomenal snow topped Rocky Mountains. Pass through three Canadian National Parks along route: Glacier, Yoho, and Banff. Travel through the Spiral Tunnels and Kicking Horse canyon, over Rogers Pass, and past Craigellachie, the historic site where the final spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was placed. Observe as the rivers change their direction of flow as the train passes over the Continental Divide. Spend the night in the unique town of Banff, where modern amenities and wildlife co-exist within this National Park. Breakfast and lunch are provided aboard the train.
Take a three-hour guided bus tour (with pickup at 8:00am) through the towering mountains of Rundle, Tunnel, Cascade, and Norquay and learn about the natural attractions of the wind-shaped hoodoos and the Cave & Basin National Historic Site. Be aware of the Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive! Experience a gentle ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain taking 8 minutes in a four-person fully enclosed gondola. A spectacular view and picture taking opportunity wait at the top of this 360 degree panorama of the Bow Valley. Learn all about how these majestic mountains have shaped this unique community. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Banff on your own. You may enjoy walking on the local trails, playing golf at The Fairmont Banff Springs, or having extra leisure time in your hotel. Take advantage of your complimentary admission to both the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies and the mineral pools of Banff’s Upper Hot Springs.
Your vacation concludes after a transfer from Banff to the Calgary airport or downtown (2 hrs). Thank you for travelling with AdventureLink Tours.
